Well, Happy New Year 2018.

This year went by so quickly. A new day, a new year.  January 1st.   11.  This is thought to be a master number. The most intuitive of all the numbers.  It’s dynamic and capable when its sights are set on a concrete goal.  The perfect time for us to start the new year with something new. Keep your thoughts positive and manifest something or someone into your life!

Here is the deal.  Don’t go overboard! Don’t set yourself up!  All too often people set too goals or changes in their lives on January 1st.  Then what happens?  To me, it’s like being in a race.  If you start out of the gate too quickly, you poop out!  PACE YOURSELF.  There is no reason to plan the entire year.  Evaluate your past performances.

  • What were your goals or resolutions last year?
  • How long did they last?
  • Were they realistic?
  • How many were met?
  • How did you reward yourself?
  • How did you feel when you didn’t meet your goal?
  • Who was your support system?
  • Did you journal your results?
  • What would you do differently this year?
  • Do you have a Vision Board?

December with all of the chaos is a great time to start the process of re-evaluating aspects of your life.  However, keep in mind, you don’t have to start everything all at once.  It’s so much better picking one change at a time.  Who wants to feel pressured on the first day of the new year?  Instead, maybe this year January can be your month to re-evaluate and review possible changes in your life.  This first step could be turned into an INTENTION.  Intention is the starting point of every dream. It is the creative power that fulfills all of our needs, whether for money, relationships, spiritual awakening, or love.

An intention is a directed impulse of consciousness that contains the seed form of that which you aim to create. Like real seeds, intentions can’t grow if you hold on to them. Only when you release your intentions into the fertile depths of your consciousness can they grow and flourish.

ONE GREAT INTENTION TO START THIS NEW YEAR, Give yourself space, a time-out!

I AM HERE TO HELP!

Peace Out

Satisfaction Guaranteed or Your Money Back.

Do you want to know the secret to a Merry ChrIstmas? I want to share five tips that have helped me throughout the years.  Let’s be real, this year has been a difficult one for many. I am well aware that I’m not alone in looking forward to a fresh start as we flip over the calendar and greet 2018.

But before we start a new year, let’s take back what’s remaining of this challenging year. In the midst of all, let’s celebrate what actually worked, and give thanks for the blessings we received

Let’s look at the glass half full, shall we? How? Here are 5 tips that always work for me:

  1. Be thankful and let’s make a gratitude list. I know, you’ve heard this one too many times. But I promise, it works! No matter how bad a situation might be, we always have something to be thankful for. Are you healthy? Do you have a job that you love? How about a place to live? Is your family nearby – or far away? Do you have someone or thing to love (pets!) and who loves you? Did you read a good book or see a great movie lately? Are you creative, have you finished a project? Did you make it through Thanksgiving or the semester or a trip to the mall without losing your mind? You see, then you have something to be thankful for!
  2. Now, look back at this year’s pictures. Check out the pictures on your phone and take time to appreciate those silly smiles, the messy hair do’s, the impromptu road trips with your dog or picnics and who doesn’t have, the selfies with the fish lips? Close your eyes and take a deep breathe. I bet you can feel the sentiments that those pictures bring to you. If we could only freeze time? I know.
  3. Do you believe in silver linings? Find them. I’m not sitting at a desk gazing out the window to a field of snow while I type this post. Nope. I’m sitting in my living room, balancing my laptop on my lap while my dog snuggles beside me and watching ‘The Crowne’. What are your silver linings this year?

Going through a tough season can be a catalyst for appreciation and gratitude — and this year has made me more thankful than ever for my family, my freedoms, and my faith. Silver linings come at the cost of some very dark clouds, but I am grateful for them nonetheless.

  1. My favorite, giving back – always! One of the most encouraging messages I’ve seen following some of this year’s disasters and painful circumstances is a call to action. No matter where you fall on all the issues that have divided our world, every one of us can reach out to others, serve others, love others. Just like Gandhi suggests, be the change you wish to see in the world instead. Now that I think about this, I need this t-shirt.

The benefit goes beyond what you give to other people, too, because not only does helping those in need combat injustices you perceive, it also helps you adjust your perspective. It gives you a bigger picture and more accurate way to gauge your own circumstances. It also gives you a sense of more control and therefore increases your overall satisfaction. It’s definitely a win-win situation.

  1. Wait, Wait… Don’t wait! For January 1st that is. It doesn’t have to be Monday to start something new. We can do that any day. The world may seem like it’s spinning off its axis some days, but we are still in control of our own choices. We get to decide how we receive news, how we process situations, how we respond to circumstances. We choose. We are our own storytellers.

Let’s be kind when we don’t have, be thankful even when it’s difficult and let’s be mindful in everything we do.

Let’s end this year with a bang and receive 2018 with open arms!

Merry Christmas!

Have you ever felt, Lost in space?

Lost in space… It’s all about the planets. Ever notice there are months in your life when everything in your life is just plain out of whack?  You also notice the people around you are tense and not getting along?  Your electronics are malfunctioning left, and right?  My disposal broke. Fixed. Then, my dishwasher broke. Fixed. Then, my alarm chimed allllll night!  All in the same weekend.  I checked my calendar. Sigh!

So, three or four times a year the planet Mercury goes into Retrograde. Which to let you know, started December 3rd.  It lasts approximately 4 weeks.  I am giving you a simplistic version here, as I am not an astrologer!  This is when we often times go backwards!  Retrograde often causes Magic or Mayhem!  I know what you are thinking!

So, let’s use this period of time to your advantage!

Mercury is the planet of communication and commerce. It has a strong influence on all forms of travel, communication, creativity, education and business, as well as technical correspondence and equipment.

  • Read the fine print to any important documents! If you are sending emails, follow-up and make sure they were received.
  • Be mindful of checking your travel arrangements, or for that matter, any other arrangements.
  • Be really careful of the way you reach out and communicate with others. Pay extra attention to ensure you are all on the same page.
  • Now It’s a great time to review and reset your goals, close off 2017 and get ready for 2018.
  • Take time this season to chill, relax, breath and try to get out of your own way so you can see what happens next. It’s a positive time to watch, listen and learn.
  • This is also a positive time to reach out to past colleagues. You can reconnect with people and set up new ways to communicate
  • Focus on your own well-being, and self-nurturing. It’s not always about other people, sometimes it about being there for yourself.

I stop and think, as well as, up my meditations during Mercury Retrograde.  I am responsive and peaceful when the communications are topsy turvey.

Going backwards for a second look can be to your advantage.

Peace and Out !

Holidays, a time to check how you really feel.

Did you ever realize this? For every task that you check off, three more will appear.

Hello and welcome to the holidays!

Breathe, Blink and Be Present.

Starting on Black Friday, you could feel the energy shifting in the air.  Such a contrast from the day before, when we all were stuffed and lazy from eating way too much turkey and pie.  This is a challenging time to stay mindful.  Our brains are in overdrive with all of our multi-tasking.  When that happens, we start feeling tired, frustrated, forgetful and overwhelmed.   This is when I put the laundry in the dryer and go back the next day and realize that I never turned it on.  This is also true of the dishwasher.  Should I also mention the box of bottled water that I left in the grocery cart?  These are signs!  Slow down, take a pause.  Along deep breath and a slow exhale.   Give yourself some breathing room during the next few weeks.  Take a short step back.  The demands are always going to be there.  The constant place of always doing.  The tasks in December multiply before your very eyes.  For every task you check off the list, three more will appear.  It’s hard to even imagine taking 10 minutes for yourself on a mindfulness activity.

If you can’t carve out a chunk of time each day during the holiday session, just take one or two minutes to pause, breathe and pause.  Try this 3 or 4 times in a day.  It can be at a red light or even when you are waiting in a long checkout line.  Check in with yourself.  Listen to yourself.  What is your intention in this minute?  Reflect and be curious.

If you are within a group of people and feel stressed, take a moment.  Are you really listening to what is being said right now?  Where is your focus?  Getting through the holidays has much to do with your approach and mindset as well as setting boundaries.  Be good to yourself and remember the word “NO”.  This is supposed to be a happy time of celebration.

Stay in your lane and be mindful.

Enjoy each moment as it comes, m i n d f u l l y .

((Hugs)) And Cheers!

I am talking about gratitude and its counterpart appreciation.

Nice to meet you.

It’s a Mind Tool we use to remind ourselves of the good. A lens that helps us to see the things that don’t make it onto our lists of problems to be solved. It’s a light that we shine on the people who give us the good things in life. It’s a bright highlighter we apply to invisible blessings, like clean streets or good health or enough food to eat in our pantry.

Here are 7 fun facts to boost your day:

  • Grateful People give 20% more time and money to their charity and have a stronger bond with their local community.
  • Gratitude is related to age, for every 10 years you are, your gratitude increases 5%.
  • Did you know that within the workplace happier people’s income is approximately 7% higher and grateful people will have 10% less work stress, related illnesses, are more physically fit.
  • 88% of people say that expressing gratitude to colleagues makes them feel happier and more fulfilled.
  • 93% of people agree that grateful bosses are more likely to succeed.
  • Grateful People reported more satisfying relationships and are better liked by their peers.
  • Grateful Children and Teens receive 20% better grades and are 10X less likely to start smoking!

Want to know a secret?

If you want to add longevity to your life, Grateful and Positive people add 7 years to their lives!

Finally, research studies have shown when people who are generally more grateful gave more money to a cause, they showed greater neural sensitivity in the medial prefrontal cortex, a brain area associated with learning and decision making. While not conclusive, this suggests that practicing gratitude may help train the brain to be more sensitive to the experience of gratitude down the line, contributing to improved mental health over time.

Let’s feel the gratitude this Holiday Season.  Let those around you know how much you love and appreciate them!

Time, Grateful, Thanksgiving.

Keywords for this time of the year, when we go the extra mile and help out those that we love.  No one gets to age 70+ without accumulating some great stories, anecdotes and wisdom. If you have the chance to see elderly relatives, now’s the time to ask questions. You’ll be surprised and amazed with what you learn and they’ll be happy to see that you’re interested.

On a personal note, I have a family member that was diagnosed with cancer last year. The Holidays are officially here and this could be her last.  That said, I am going to embrace this holiday session with a positive mindset and have a greater appreciation for staying in my present.  I savor each moment that I am with her.  My intentional thought is, “I will enjoy each moment of Thanksgiving”.

It is very easy for us to get caught up with the frustrations and overwhelming emotions of the Holidays.  We are adding more things to our overloaded lists and errands.  Our inner chatter is in overdrive, reminding us of all of the negative reminders about our relatives, that we would like to forget! DON’T BUY IN!

Stay in the here and now.  Thanksgiving 2017 only comes around once.

Here are six techniques that I use to reduce Holiday stress before the Holidays –

Self-Care is essential this time of the year.  What are you doing for yourself?  WE often put ourselves at the bottom of the To Do List.  Make a change this year, put your name at the top.  Schedule some “Me” time.  Take a 20-minute walk, a hot bath or a car ride alone.

Make a list of what relaxes you and gives you a calming effect.  Schedule a massage or a beauty treatment.  Go to Target and buy yourself a face mask treatment.  Close your bedroom door and sit quietly for 20 minutes, with your mask.  You will feel more peaceful and have a glow.

Arrange a date night or a pre-holiday girl’s night out.  Take in a movie, a glass of wine, or just play a few board games.  Eat chocolate.  Your dopamine will love you!

Remember the point of Thanksgiving!  It’s to be THANKFUL.  Start your morning, writing three things that you are grateful for.  This will send. positive vibes with you the entire day.  Don’t sent yourself up with unrealistic expectations.  The day is for sharing and enjoying.  Leave your assumptions and expectations at HOME.

If you start feeling stressed.  Walk away and take three long, deep, grounding, breaths.  Remember this is just ONE day of the year.   Make the best of your day.  Be thankful and giving.  Give someone a hug who does not expect one!

If a family member is stressing you out, smile and tell them you can have a follow-up discussion, AFTER the holiday. It’s a great day for food, company and feeling grateful.  Take care of yourself be present and happy that you’re spending time together.

Time is the most precious gift.

Happy almost Thanksgiving! Gobble Gobble !

Three Rules I live by http://doccynthia.com/inner-chatter-not-invited/ http://doccynthia.com/inner-chatter-not-invited/#respond Mon, 13 Nov 2017 08:00:53 +0000 http://gratefulpeaceofmind.com/?p=28749 The post Three Rules I live by appeared first on Doc Cynthia.

]]>

Inner chatter not invited. Whenever I enter a new situation and meet new people, I try to live by three golden rules.

  • No assumptions.
  • No judgements of other’s nor myself.
  • No expectations

Think about it.  This certainly, will keep that inner chatter to a minimum.  You are not concerned about being judged yourself.  It gives you an opportunity to enjoy the moment as it’s unfolding.

My journey into Mindfulness includes these three golden rules that are sometimes difficult to follow.

This past weekend I was invited to a bowling party.  Not an unusual event for adults.  I only knew one person.  I could have easily allowed my ego to start chirping in my ear.  The uncertainty and unknowing. Thus, producing anxiety and self-doubting myself.  Are people going to be friendly? Will I be judged?  Am I wearing the right cloths?  Should I bowl?  It could have triggered those thoughts that you had in Middle school.  Will someone pick me to be on their team?  I make my choices and I don’t care what people think.  My mantra!

Staying in your present and using these three rules will reduce your anxiety, boost your confidence and give you courage.   When you are mindful you are taking in what is happening at this moment in time.  You are not in the past nor future.  When you are starting to feel that inner chatter in your head, take a pause and BREATHE.  Slow down and take three deep breaths.  Think about what you are telling yourself.  Is it true?  Move on!

You are not judging these people nor making any assumptions.  Instead, I went into the situation joyful and grateful I was invited.  I got out of my box and was one of the few women who bowled.   And yes, my ball went in the wrong direction, no one was injured.  They also did not have any gutter guards!  Ok, I had one of the lowest scores.  Who cares!  I amused myself and got a little exercise I as well.  Without having the expectations, I am not disappointed. My mindset was set on positive. I refused to allow myself to scan the crowd for the negative.  If you look hard enough, you will always find someone at a party making judgements about everyone.  Remember we attract what we are thinking about.  Negativity brings negativity.

Entering social situations with preconceived notions and expectations, sets you up for your ego to come out in full force.  You are so caught up in your chatter, you miss what is happening in the here and now.

Take a risk with new adventures, stay mindful and leave your pesky ego at the door.

“Be present in all things and thankful for all things.”- Maya Angelou

This week I have been thinking about time. I put that out and Deepak had a meditation series and addresses time. I am spending most of my time writing a new guide called MindPowerment. I felt a rush to get this project finished before the holidays. Did you notice all of the “I’s” here? Yes, It’s me. Is there someone demanding this? Only myself. I found myself waking up and writing lists in my head before my feet hit the ground out of my bed. I put off meditating until later in the morning. What? The queen of mindfulness? That is so not like me. Who is the Master of my time?

According to Deepak, the world is facing an epidemic called “TIME SICKNESS”. Keep this in mind if you have extra sick days!

Check out the symptoms:

  • Heavy feelings that there is NOT enough time in the day to accomplish what you have before you on your endless list.
  • Feeling of racing against time, constantly looking at your watch and racing against it.
  • A sick feeling in the pit of your stomach when something suddenly disrupts your schedule. Your child is sick, you have car issues, your computer is not working, a parent is rushed to the hospital. You are empathetic yet, you know this is going to throw your entire schedule off.
  • A feeling of high when you accomplish everything on your list. Everything is checked off!

Eliminating Time Sickness from your life takes a commitment of living in your present. Slowing down and admitting this just does not work for you. Knowing that is has nothing to do with time management, but rather a state of mind. We allow time to throw our mind and body out of balance. I totally did that this week. I allowed time to rule my life.

Sitting in stillness of the moment. Meditation is the prescription here. A shift occurs. No matter how frustrating the moment, it DOES NOT bother you! There is no disruption. You are responsive versus reactive. You enjoy the moment. You are not wishing for more, just enjoying the now. When you are the Master of time, your body and mind are aligned and you flow!

Do you feel stuck?  What motivates you to get up and get moving?  It always starts with your mindset.  There are so many books and information available about immobility.  Just be careful and be mindful of what you are reading.  Titles and taglines can be misleading. Be mindful.  There is no quick fix.  It would be great if there is a magical pill or program that will help you quickly to motivate yourself.  There is a good book called the 5 second rule written by Mel Robbins.  She points out, there are tons of self-help books on motivation. You need to take a pause and discover what will possibly work for you.  You need to be in your present in order to self-monitor yourself. Just remember being in your present will help you increase your productivity.  But, sometimes when we are feeling overwhelmed and frustrated with our lives, we have a tendency to over think.  We get inside our heads which often makes our situation even worse.  Over thinking is a curse!  So, how long do you give yourself to reset you mindset in order to get the gumption be motivated and get moving?

According to Mel Robbins, if it takes you longer than 5 seconds to make a choice or a decision, you will become immobilized.  I think she has a good concept.  I also think individually; we need to set our own mind set timers.  I agree that we need a establish an internal time limit in order to wake ourselves up and push ourselves.  If we allow too much time, we fall into our comfort zones. Our brains prefer this resting state.  We procrastinate and tell ourselves to wait until later or tomorrow.  If we give ourselves a set time, one minute or 5 seconds to make ourselves to get moving, you will start the process of stop self-doubting and build your inner strength.  How much time do you give yourself before you talk yourself out of taking actions in your life?

When My kids were younger and in school, they begged me each morning to give them 5 extra minutes to start their day.  It became a habit loop in their brains.  It’s funny, even when my son is home during his semester breaks, he still asks me to give him 5 extra minutes.

This is the first step this week.   Is 5 seconds too short?  What about a minute?  Remember, if you give yourself too much time, the negative chatter is activated.  It’s 6:30 on a Monday morning.  Make a rule of your set time.  Let’s say 60 seconds.  You now have 60 seconds to get up and launch a productive day.   When you have to decide on what breakfast you are having this morning, you have 60 seconds to make up your mind.  When you make that decision to make a deliberate action, stick with it!  No looking back, remain in your present!  No” if’s” “then’s” or “buts”!  We can do this together!  Don’t talk yourself out of this.  Let us know what your mind set timer will be!!     Try different times and see what works best for you.  Mine is 30 seconds. We are in this together.
